Superbowl XLII – Sunday February 3rd, 2008!!!
Beer
& Snacks at the ready!
The SuperBowl is the climax of the American
Football season
The champions of the NFC (National Football
Conference) and the AFC (American Football
Conference) meet in one the world's great
sporting events to decide who will carry away
the Vince Lombardi Trophy as annual champions of
the NFL (National Football League).
These two champions are determined in a grueling
round of knock-out play-offs (THIS YEAR THE
UNDEFEATED NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS WILL MEET THE
UNDERDOG NEW YORK GIANTS) between the winners of
the four divisions and two wild card teams in
each conference.
Trivia: Ready?
• New Orleans and Miami have hosted the Super
Bowl the most at 9 times.
• Dallas, San Francisco, and Pittsburgh have
won the most Super Bowls at 5 times.
• The longest Super Bowl winning streak has
only been two in a row.
• Minnesota, Buffalo and Denver have lost the
most Super Bowls at 4 times. Buffalo lost 4
times in a row.
Ouch, this one really hurts since I’m a Bills
fan
and I was old enough
to remember!
• The longest run in a Super Bowl was 75 yards
by Willie Parker during Super Bowl XL.
• Mike Ditka, Tom Flores, and Tony Dungy have
all won a Super Bowl both as a player and a
coach.
• In 1981, Oakland linebacker Rod Martin set a
record with three interceptions.
• In 2000, St. Louis quarterback Kurt Warner
set a record with 414 yards passing.
• In 1989, San Francisco wide receiver Jerry
Rice gained 215 yards on 11 catches.
The stadium seats 63,400 for Cardinals games,
but will provide approximately 10,000 more seats
for Super Bowl XLII.
The roof has two large retractable panels that
uncover the entire playing field while providing
maximum shading for fans. The roof can be closed
and the facility air conditioned in the hot
months, while the roof can be opened to take
advantage of the Valley's world-famous climate
in cooler months.
The grass field rolls out of the stadium on an
18.9-million-pound tray, residing outside of the
stadium except for football and soccer events.
With the field in the outboard position, the
158,000-square-foot floor is unencumbered by the
turf and features a built-in utility grid.
The grass field remains outside the stadium in
the sun until game day, which allows for the
maximum amount of sunshine and nourishment,
eliminating humidity problems inside the stadium
and providing unrestricted access to the stadium
floor for events and staging.
Completed in the fall of 2006 and built
specifically to showcase Arizona's next Super
Bowl, this $455 million architectural wonder is
the most advanced sporting facility in the
world. The facility has been voted "Best NFL
Facility" by Street & Smith's Sports Business
Journal and Sports Business Daily. The stadium
has also been named one of the Top 10 stadiums
in the world by Business Week.
